According to the National Statistics Office, every minute there are three babies born, almost 200 in an hour and nearly 4000 a day. The Philippine population is approaching to 90million and still counting.
Albay Representative Edcel Lagman, the principal author and other legislators are pushing the passage of the Reproductive Health Bill also known as the House Bill 5043. For they believe that this proposed measure could break the chains of overpopulation reaping our country.
The Social Weather Station said that about 7 out of 10 Filipinos are in favor of this bill. Meaning to say, majority of Filipinos are paving optimism with this.
On the other hand, the Catholic Church has been opposing this, saying that this promotes a culture of immorality, abortion and promiscuity among youth. Literally there are walls between the church and the Senate. It’s just like they travel in the opposite lane of the road, seemingly not to meet in the same direction.
Through this long run of debate, lots of speculations and questions emerged. Simply it is just YES or NO or asking oneself if I should deal or no deal.
Out of this issue, for me it is a deal. Neglecting the idea of immorality; I do believe this can ease the illness our country is suffering. At first, the only aim of RH Bill is to advocate information on access to both natural and modern family planning methods, which are medically safe and legally permissible and not merely focusing on the legalization of abortion. Definitely not.
Second, the United Nation (UN) stated in 2002 that family planning and reproductive health are essential in reducing poverty. So it is the time for us to be clinched in a systematic scheme. Through this Filipino family would be able to act responsibly.
And through the mandatory reproductive health education in schools mainly for the youth, the unawareness will be replaced with knowledge. And really “Education is the discovery of our own Ignorance” a quotation from W. Durant. Educating the youth and opening their eyes with these aspects can lead them to vigilance and letting them know about the bona fide consequences.
As a part of HB 5043 their main focus is to pursue the usage of contraceptives. And these contraceptives should be treated as essential medicines and utilizing it in a proper manner. Pills, IUDS etc. may reduce the incidence of maternal and infant morality.
See, HB 5043 can really make a change. Remember that it is not a way of committing sins but a tactic to develop awareness.
As a whole, solving this nation’s problem does not depend on this what so called “RH Bill” basically, moreover on the discipline planted in every Filipino.
